Food 04 - Schnitzel Tutorial by LPDisney Food 04 - Schnitzel Tutorial by LPDisney
My friend (and my Sensei for Japanese) Kohashi Masato arrived from Japan last month. He's crazy about Israeli food so I decided to teach him how to make Israeli Schnitzels. We took pictures of the whole process, so I said - Hey, why not share this with you all?

So here's a small easy-to-make tutorial of how to cook Schnitzels. The dish came from Europe and in time became on of the basic Israeli dishes everyone loves to eat!

Enjoy!

How much oil do you add to the pan? Enough to cover the chicken?

:iconlpdisney:
LPDisney Featured By Owner Aug 4, 2010  Professional Filmographer
no no! just enough to cover the pan. a very thin layer. once you don't get "holes" in the oil layer it's enough.

A good pork roast (such as a boston butt roast) sliced thin and pounded works sooo well for this too. It's one of my favorite meals to cook.

It's interesting that you're calling this schnitzels. In Poland, this is exactly how you make a Cotlet (Kotlet), and Schnitzel (Sznycel) is made similarly but from minced meat mixed with garlic and other spices. I wonder where the shift in naming comes from.

Some day try corn flakes instead of bread crumbs. The result is very puffy and crunchy.

I have no idea why we call it like that. Maybe it's a mix of Hebrew and Polish (something like Yiddish maybe??)
I know the corn flakes version, but I don't like it.
Thanks :-)

you can make the same process with anything, even chopped veggies
(if it's potato it would be "latkes" that we make in holidays)

like I wrote - it came from Europe when the Jewish people flee in the war. but it's so tasty and easy to make every house loves it and so it kinda became one of our dishes.

Jewish people don't eat pork. I'm guessing this is the Israeli version.
