WOW! I think that’s the most beautiful thing I ever drew in my life. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to sound full of myself, on the contrary - I’m actually surprised at myself, I never knew I had it in me.
This is NOT how I planned it to be. I got carried away… AGAIN. It was suppose to look like a still from the movie. I have no idea how it turned like this. I can’t believe I actually drew that damn rock. I don’t like doing backgrounds (Btw, the seaweed is mostly the butterfly brush in PS). I lost patience with the splash – it supposes to look as if it were animation and therefore its colors are flat. Please don’t remark on it (unless it’s super ugly and I really need to fix it ;-) )
This was inspired by my good friend :iconnippy13: ‘s beautiful artwork: nippy13.deviantart.com/art/Ari…

Most of us I, believe, don’t remember much from our childhood, only special and significant event that happened to us.
As for me, I may remember the first day of school and some other events, but there’s one moment etched in my mind that I probably won’t forget till the day I die.

I was about 9 years old (I was born in 1980) and The Little Mermaid just came out. Back then I didn’t understand what animation was, what the heck is Disney and I don’t even remember going to the cinema to watch the film, less who took me there and with whom I went.
BUT! I do remember one moment, as clear as it happened yesterday, and that moment was when Ariel was on the rock singing “I don’t know when, I don’t know how…”
I remember the chair I was sitting in, it was a big dark brown chair, cause I was just a little girl. I remember is was dark cause the movie was playing. And when Ariel was raising herself up and her hair was blowing in the wind and she was singing and the water splashed behind her, I remember staring at the screen with my mouth open and my heart beating, as if I were transfixed, enchanted, bewitched, call it whatever you like.
Btw, I even saw it in Hebrew (hey, I was only 9) and it was still amazing! The music was enchanting and the Israeli voice actor (Rama Mesinger) did a pretty good job! (I see her on television here and there and it’s so cool, cause it’s as if Ariel is talking). Nothing compare to the amazing JODI BENSON, but still quite good. It was the music of Alan Manken that got me hooked and I believe that tune will work in any language.
I remember months or even years after I saw the movie day dreaming and humming that tune to myself all the time. I felt just like Eric, I just couldn’t get that tune out of my head. I had to see her again… and again… and again… and again…

The Little Mermaid is one of the biggest influences of my life. I don’t even think I would have been here right now and the way I am right now, if it weren’t for that movie. It’s one of the main reasons why I’m an animator. It’s one of the main reasons why I love animation so much. And that specific moment is probably one of my favorite, maybe my most favorite part of the movie and from all animation out there.

So as a tribute to that moment I present to you this humble art. May this movie inspire you as it inspired me to create beautiful, classic and enchanting artwork you can share with the world.

Thank you for listening and viewing my work.
Your humble servant,
Liron.
